COVID-19 Program

GKHET was one of the first NGO on the scene when the pandemic hit in March 2020.

What GKHET is doing and how it is helping the community here in the US and in India?

GKHET was one of the first NGO on the scene when the pandemic hit in March 2020. We were able to employ women that we had already trained in sewing, make 25,000 masks (which at the time were not available in India) and personally distributed and demonstrated the proper use of masks to the super spreaders like vegetable vendors, small shop owners and in the slums of Ahmedabad with the purpose of preventing the spread of COVID 19 and also distributed food to the people in the slum areas of Ahmedabad during the lockdown.

Our volunteers have provided thousands of pounds food to various food-to-food pantries in NJ, sustainable lunches to the homeless in Newark NJ, hundreds of scarves, hate, gloves, socks, neck warmers to the homeless in the underprivileged areas of NJ and started a winter coat drive for the homeless in NJ and delivered 100+ coats to the Bridges outreach program in Summit NJ.

Coronavirus Education and Awareness:

Additionally, volunteers in India are working to equip villagers, food vendors and construction site workers with masks needed to combat the spread of the virus in their communities. Volunteers educated the people about the severity of the COVID-19 virus; with the importance of washing your hands, social distancing, wearing a mask, and avoiding large gatherings to prevent the spread of transmission. GKHET remains committed to aiding the underprivileged during this global pandemic, while also observing all recommended social distancing and safety guidelines to protect our volunteers and beneficiaries.

We are working diligently to provide aid for hard-hit communities and individuals, both locally and overseas in India.

COVID Projects in India

Food distribution in collaboration with SHWAS in Ahmedabad‘s slum areas which is fully funded by GKHET.

Women who were trained in Fashion Design (vocational training sponsored by GKHET) made masks which gave them the opportunity to show off their skills, and at the same time allowed themselves to make income. These homemade masks were distributed to underprivileged families at various locations throughout Gujarat, India.

As of October 2021, over 150 units were sent. Thank you to all who contributed to this important effort!
